Overview
This webinar provides a concise overview of the disease model of addiction and introduces two leading recovery programs: Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and SMART Recovery. Dr. Fuehrlein explores common barriers to recovery, such as denial and triggers, and highlights strategies to overcome them. The session outlines key principles of AA and SMART Recovery, along with clinical challenges to participation that can be addressed through effective motivational interviewing. Finally, it presents evidence supporting these programs, helping clinicians build confidence when discussing them with patients in recovery.
This course is not eligible for credit.
The target audience for this introductory level activity includes: All types of healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- Describe and apply the four basic components of the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program to patient care.
- Recognize routine clinical roadblocks to AA participation and work with patients to bypass these roadblocks.
- Understand the SMART Recovery model and navigate a patient through the process.
