Overview
This 65-minute webinar features a panel discussion with six experts who examine key aspects of alcohol use and its effects on liver health. The session opens with an overview of alcohol use in the United States, along with a review of validated screening tools. It then introduces foundational motivational interviewing techniques and discusses considerations for tailoring care to individual patient needs.
The webinar next provides an in-depth exploration of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD), including the pathophysiology of alcohol-related liver injury. The speakers also address alcohol-associated hepatitis, with a focus on diagnostic criteria and key considerations for liver transplantation. The session concludes with a review of the cardiovascular effects of alcohol, an overview of alcohol’s classification as an IARC Group 1 carcinogen, and a discussion of cancer types associated with alcohol use. Key mechanisms of alcohol-mediated carcinogenesis are explained, along with implications for clinical cancer screening strategies.
