Overview

This training will help participants better understand how stigma surrounding medications for alcohol use disorder (MAUD) and recovery pathways can influence care experiences and treatment decisions. Through real-world case examples, learners explore the impact of both internalized and external stigma on individuals seeking recovery, examine the role of MAUD as an evidence-based treatment option for AUD, and identify practical approaches to fostering more inclusive and supportive recovery environments. Participants will leave with actionable strategies to promote person-centered care and support diverse pathways to recovery, particularly within peer recovery communities.

The target audience for this introductory level activity includes: All types of healthcare professionals. 

The ACGME Competencies include: Patient Care and Procedural Skills, and Systems-based Practice

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

1. Identify how various forms of stigma (both internalized and external) impact treatment engagement, and manifest within peer recovery  communities.
2. Explain the role of Medication for Alcohol Use Disorder (MAUD) in treating alcohol use disorder.
3. Formulate practical strategies to support all-encompassing recovery pathways, specifically focusing on how to preempt and respond to  stigma against MAUD in peer recovery settings.
