Overview
This 2-hour module explores the complex interplay between alcohol use disorder (AUD) and common co-occurring psychiatric conditions, including bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder. Learners will gain an understanding of how these conditions interact, diagnostic tools and strategies for screening and diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment approaches. The module combines theoretical knowledge with practical approaches, ensuring learners are equipped to address these co-occurring conditions in their clinical practice.
The target audience for this introductory level activity includes clinical healthcare professionals who prescribe medications in outpatient or inpatient settings.

Smita Das, MD, PhD, MPH is Board Certified in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine and has over 20 years of research experience in healthcare quality and addiction. She studied Chemistry and Statistics at Stanford, completed her Master's in Public Health at Dartmouth College, and then completed her MD/PhD in Community Health at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. In addition to her work at Lyra Health, Dr. Das practices in addictions at Stanford School of Medicine, where she is a Clinical Associate Professor.

Stephanie Nichols, PharmD, MPH, BCPP, FCCP is an Associate Professor at the University of New England School of Pharmacy and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine. She is also a Core Faculty at the Maine Medical Center (MMC) Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program and an Instructor in the MMC Psychiatry Residency Program. A Board-Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP) with nearly 20 years of experience, Dr. Nichols has precepted close to 200 pharmacy and medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. Borelli is a core faculty member in addiction medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. She trained in emergency medicine at UT Health San Antonio and completed an addiction medicine fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine in New York City, New York. Her clinical work is on the inpatient Yale Addiction Medicine Consult Service in New Haven, Connecticut. In this role, she works on an interdisciplinary team and precepts trainees who span the spectrum of medical training, including first-year medical students, medical students, and resident physicians on the Yale Collaborative Behavioral Health and Addiction Medicine Program (CHAMP) pathway, consult-liaison psychiatry fellows, palliative care fellows, and addiction medicine fellows.

Dr. McLeish specializes in addiction medicine. Her main clinical interests are cocaine, opioid, and tobacco use disorders, community outreach, education, and wellness. Dr. McLeish received her MD from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.
